Intel’s Chief Raja Koduri hints at Intel’s Xe graphics card release

In a tweet posted by Raja Koduri, Intel’s chief architect hinted at the release of Intel’s Xe graphics card in June 2020. 

Every hardware enthusiast is aware of the fact that Intel will enter the discrete graphics market, as the company has made it public ever since they hired Raja Koduri. In 2018, Intel committed to a 2020 release date for the early Xe graphics cards, which would in due course move from entry-level mobile up to the data center which includes gaming GPUs, and also exascale supercomputers with the Xe-based GPGPU serving as the launch vehicle for Intel’s 7nm manufacturing process.

Xe is an alternative name for the Gen 12 graphics architecture, which would be made available in two micro-architecture variants. One optimized for the data centers whereas the other one optimized for the consumers.

So far Intel has maintained total confidentiality and hasn’t provided any specific guidance other than the information regarding the release of Xe graphics card, which would be made available by the end of 2020. However there are some rumors which state that the Xe-powered Tiger Lake CPUs would be released in the first half of 2020. But with the recent tweet from Raja Koduri, things might be a little clearer now.

On the backside of a Tesla Model S, the custom plate unambiguously reads ‘THINKXE’ (Think Xe). Keeping Intel’s previous disclosures in mind, finding ‘2020’ on the plate isn’t such a surprise, and sure does get one to ponder upon. Most eye-catching is the June month on the license plate. The date June 2020 seems so peculiar to be a coincidence. Intel might have an announcement or even a release program for Computer scheduled in June 2020

Another tweet posted on Thursday from an unverified profile, pointed out that Lakefield-R would be Xe-based product, based on some source code. The tweet also said that Lakefield-R and Ryefield, both have the same driver requirements.
