AMD’s Radeon RX graphics card based on Navi 14 and Navi 12 May launch in October

According to the report based on the recent listing in Mesa 3D GPU library, we can say that AMD is planning to launch AMD Navi 14 and Navi 12 GPUs pretty soon. The two GPUs, Navi 14 and Navi 12 were tagged as “Trivial and Urgent”. The report by PCGamesN says that AMD’s Marek Olsak has tagged the addition of PCU IDs for two upcoming Navi GPUs as very urgent, if that means anything, we are most likely to see support added by the next update, which is version 19.2 that has recently landed.

Though there have been leaks about Navi cards previously we don’t have many details about them. If AMD is planning to release the support for this specific version l, then we can say that the launch of Radeon RX graphics card based on Navi 14 and Navi 12 is just around the corner, and because the new update is to be dropped by 15th October, it is most likely that the Navi 12 and Navi 14 would be made available before that.

Even Though Navi 14 and Navi 12 GPUs have had their share of leaks on both specifications and performance, we still don’t have any concrete information concerning their specifications, nothing concrete off of them.

There are at least three variants of Polaris 14 GPU which has made numerous appearances on the Compubench benchmark database. The three variants features 3GB ‘7340:CF’, 4GB ‘7430:C1’ and 8GB ‘7341:00’ VRAM. The three variants having vastly different VRAM have the same core configuration. The variants show different performance metrics. The 3GB variant is at-par with the Radeon RX 5700.

While the other two outpasses the Polaris cards. Because these variants are still at a very early stage of engineering, there is still room for development. These also feature 1536 stream processors with 24 CUs and clock speed up to 1900 MHz.

Would Navi cards thrive over Polaris cards?

It might be a possibility that the Radeon RX graphics cards based on the Navi 14 and Navi 12 could replace the three existing Polaris cards, the RX 570, RX 580, RX 590, but it’s a tough nut to crack when it comes to pricing. The Polaris cards are currently available at cheap rates, given the discounts and price cuts by several retail sellers.

To outshine these Polaris cards, either the Navi 14 and Navi 12 have to be priced aggressively or they must offer much better performance than the other pre-existing AMD graphics cards. But one thing for sure is that the Navi 14 GPUs would offer better performance per watt when compared to the Polaris due to its 7nm manufacturing process. 

We don’t have many details about Navi 12 GPUs. We don’t even know if it falls between Navi 10 and Navi 14 or is a new entry-tier chip altogether, But we do know that they are getting launched in the coming month, so more details are expected soon.
